Obituary of Alfred W. "Bill" Biondi

A. William "Bill" Biondi, 69, of Vineland and Cape May, passed away Tuesday, September 30 in Cooper University Hospital where he was surrounded by his loving family and had been a patient for four days. A lifelong Vineland resident, Bill was the founder and president of Biondi Insurance Agency, a business he started 40 years ago as an independent agent. Biondi Insurance currently employs a staff of 12 licensed agents at its center city location. A 1962 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, he attended Glassboro State College now Rowan University. Although semi-retired since 2006, Bill continued to oversee the operation of the insurance agency and was involved in numerous civic and charitable endeavors. He served on the fund raising committee of Deborah Heart and Lung Center, was a member of the Vineland Chamber of Commerce, the Italian American Club and Independent Insurance Group of New Jersey. Bill was also a supporter of the Boys and Girls Club. Active in Democratic politics for many years, Bill was a former Freeholder and current president of the Cumberland County Board of Taxation. He served on the tax board for the past 25 years. A life member of the Recreation Club, he was also a 40-year member of the North Italy Club where he served two terms as club president. For many years he served as toastmaster of North Italy's Annual Game Dinner. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill loved music and was an accomplished drummer. He founded the M & S Band that performed for senior citizens in Vineland and Downe Township and in parades in Vineland, Millville, Bridgeton, Woodstown and Alloway. Bill and his wife, Sharon, spent many happy summers at their home in Cape May where they enjoyed cruising the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay in their 31-foot Sport Craft based at Harborview Marina. They also enjoyed cruising the South Jersey shore in their 1953 Ford Crestline Victoria. Bill was a former member of the Villas Fishing Club. He enjoyed time with his friends and especially his time with the "Breakfast Club "during the past 40 years. Survivors include his wife of 20-years, Sharon (Lore Campbell); three daughters, Marilyn (Gary) Beres, Ann Massey (fiancé Brian Wills) and Kathy (John) Wolff; his brother, Charles R. (Bernice) Biondi; his mother Rita (Quairoli) Biondi; 9 grandchildren: David Roy, Timothy and Jacob Massey, Brian Wills Jr., Allison and Megan Beres, John, Raymond and Ella Wolff. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred W. Biondi, former city business administrator, former Delsea Regional School Superintendent and former chairman of the Cumberland County College Board of Trustees and by his nephew, Michael Biondi. Friends will be received Sunday, October 5 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Monday October 6 from 9 to 11 a.m. at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 South Lincoln Avenue, Vineland. The funeral service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's name may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Center or a charity of one's choice. The family requests a fragrance free visitation.
